Jane was fondly called by the nickname “Hutchie.” The daughter of Alexander and Anne Moore Tyler Lithgow from Dumfries, Virginia, Jane married Alexander Henderson Jr in 1801 when she was 21 years old. She and Alexander traveled on horseback across the mountains from eastern Virginia to their Beech Park home in Burning Springs. The couple brought cotton and cast iron kettles with them.
